Julia Fiona Roberts was born in Atlanta on the 28th of October 1967 to Betty Lou Bredemus and Walter Grady Roberts. Her grandfather, her great-grandfather John Pendleton Roberts, a farmer, was the first Roberts to arrive in Atlanta. Her father was a young man when he was interested in theatre. He was an actor on stage on the Emory University campus in 1952 and also in other productions throughout Atlanta. He joined the air force in 1953. During his time working in Biloxi Mississippi, was a part of the military's production, which featured Betty Lou Bredemus who was an air force member as well. In 1955, the couple tied the knot and in 1956 their child Eric Anthony was born. The couple divorced in 1957. the Air Force and Walter began his studies at Tulane University in New Orleans Louisiana. In 1960, the family relocated from Louisiana to Decatur Georgia where Walter began working for Atlanta's Academy Theater and the Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio. The year 1964 was when Walter and Betty Lou began production on the local Saturday morning children's television show called Bum Bum and His Buddies that they designed and funded. In the following year, they established The Actors and Writers Workshop which continued for six seasons. During this time they also had two children Lelisa (called Lisa) Billingsley in 1965 and Julia (called Julie) in 1967.
